THE ALASKA BUSH PILOT 

Poem #52

The Alaska Bush Pilot goes where others dare not fly; they know the land and the sky.  

The Bush Pilot takes off from the water, snow, ice, or grass: Only to land on cliffs, glaciers, sandbars and the highest mountain’s pass. 

These pilots soar with eagles in the deep blue sky; explores the mountains and valleys high and wide.   

They marvel at the glaciers shining bright, and honors the People and creatures living in the light. 

The Bush Pilot carries people, cargo, mail, or fur; and helps the miners, hunters, fishermen, or tourists into Alaska’s splendor.   

They see the beauty of Alaska from above; He feels the thrill of adventure for it is his true love. 

He faces challenges and dangers every day; but bush flying is still far better than going by dog sleigh.  

They deal with rain, snow, sleet, wind and fog; They trusts their skills, Their plane, Their gut, and has total faith above all in God. 

They learn from their mentors and fellow bush pilots; They shares stories, insights for safety and guidance; they honor the Alaskan spirit and tradition, in passing on the Bush Pilot ambition. 

They enjoy their family and fellow bush flyers; supports the community and helps with what they desire.  

The Alaska bush pilot’s feats are Legendary; They are a friend to many – for those in need – taking the risk is voluntary.  The soul of Alaska is the Bush Pilot.
